Siri Harkins started in gymnastics at age 6 and switched over to dance at the age of 8. She studied ballet and tap, later adding jazz and lyrical. She danced on a competitive dance team from 2003-2009 in jazz, tap, and lyrical at competitions such as Star Systems, Bravo, Cathy Roe’s, and others. She also attended dance conventions such as Elite, West Coast Dance Force, and Dance Olympus. She was frequently picked out by teachers in the lyrical and ballet classes. She also attended a 4 day workshop in New York City when she was 15, learning musical theatre, hip hop, ballet, jazz, etc from professional dancers. When Siri was in high school, she performed in many musical theatre productions and did choreography for shows such as Godspell and All Shook Up.
Due to a knee injury, Siri took a brief hiatus from dance to focus on music. She attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth for violin performance, but quickly added a dance minor where she was a Teacher’s Assistant for ballet her last two years of college. She also designed an independent study course in dance pedagogy, focusing on beginning ballet. Siri presented a capstone presentation on teaching beginning ballet for her colleagues at university to finish out her university honors program requirements. During college, Siri also taught dance at a local dance studio and became their head ballet instructor, primarily working with the competitive teams where she choreographed duets and solos for competitive dancers.
Siri moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to pursue acting. She danced with companies such as LA Unbound and Amaterasu Dance Co. and taught at a few studios. She is so excited to join the Ohana Faculty!
